Got wind that we're famous when I was emailed this article!

Enamored in Encinitas: High school ended a long time ago for Encinitas sweethearts Phil Gallo and Angie Trulson.

In the mid-1980s, they ran with same crowd. He played football and soccer; she was a gymnast.

But 26 years had passed when Gallo took a knee in front of the waterfall at the San Diego Botanic Garden recently to propose.

"We came from separate junior high schools, but met at San Dieguito High School," he told me on Wednesday. "We had a lot of the same friends."
Trulson left town before he did, but Gallo stayed away longer, studying acupuncture and opening his own business in Los Angeles, where he was living when his mother passed away in 2010.

"In November of 2010, after 25 years of not seeing each other, we ran into each other a local bar ---- the Encinitas Ale House," he recalled. "When we got to talking with one another, she asked me, 'Are you Phil Gallo? I'm Angie Trulson.' So after all that time, we reconnected."

There was no way that Gallo and Trulson, the high school freshmen, could have foreseen their happy-ever-after moment 2 1/2 decades in the future.

"I don't think she thought of it ---- I sure didn't think of it," he said. "We still tell this story to everybody. If we knew then what we know now ... who knows what could have come of it? But you live, you grow, you experience life."

Gallo, now 44, moved back to Encinitas last summer, opening his acupuncture and personal training business, Acu-Fit, after closing up shop in L.A. Their wedding is planned for October.

"She was a really sweet girl" back in high school, he said. "A very cute, blond-haired, blue-eyed, athletic girl. When you're that young, you don't pay too much attention, but she was very outgoing and positive."
